The world of fashion and the cycling world have a couple of things in common, including the presence of mavericks pushing boundaries to keep you guessing. In fashion, Vivienne Westwood comes to mind, while cyclist Kelli Samuelson exudes excitement and flavor. Kelli brings her punk rock vibe to velodromes, tracks, and crits as she pushes her own boundaries and works towards her goal of the 2020 Olympic Games. I would advise everyone to keep an eye on her as she ascends to glory! Here is what she had to say to our Style Icon questions.
Who is your favorite clothing designer? I’m not sure I have a favorite. I’ve been through so many different fashion stages from preppy, to rocking a pink Mohawk, to only wearing spandex for days on end.
Websites you check everyday? Ummm, that’s hard. I do Social Media at work so I’m always online checking different sites.
Who are your style icons? Hands down, Gwen Stefani. Just look at her!
What is your favorite cycling kit? Currently it’s probably my Team Cinelli Chrome kit, but our LA Sweat Kits are going to be insane!
Who are your cycling heroes? I’m a huge supporter of women’s cycling. So it’s hard to choose just a few. Some of the women I have met, like Evie Stevens, are so nice and inspiring. I also love watching Marianne Vos race.
Favorite place to ride? It’s always the same answer, very cliché, but hands down it’s Italy.
Is there a fabric or pattern that you like most? I love bright colors (you wouldn’t be able to tell since I always wear black), and polka dots and stripes.
What can you not live without? Leggings! I live in them.
What song gets you pumped to ride? Anything Heart! Especially “ Crazy on You.”
