Interbike 2013: HED Wheels

HED Wheels had their outstanding Ardennes+ 25mm wide tubeless wheels on display at the show. The Minnesota based company’s newest addition to the lineup is a blacked out centerlock disc specific FR version that is bound to draw new school ‘cross and gravel road riders alike. We’ve been riding the Ardennes+ rim brake clinchers for cyclocross and absolutely love how the wide super tough and stiff C2+ rims turn a 33c tire into a 38c for an amazingly smooth ride with unbelievable grip. The Ardennes+ line will be available in CL, LT, SL, FR, and FR Disc versions.

The standard Ardennes/Belgium C2 rim has been updated as well. It sheds 40 grams to achieve a 420 gram weight and now offers tubeless compatibility by using a similar channel and bead shelf as the C2+ rim. Starting with their soon to be released next production run, the improved C2 Belgium hoop will come as standard equipment on all HED Ardennes wheelsets which are now limited to SL, FR, and FR Disc versions.

Also on display was a prototype carbon fatbike rim that is affectionately named “YO MAMMA” as in, “Yo mamma is so fat that when she’s at the beach Greenpeace comes and tries to tow her back into the ocean!”  The new rim is tubeless and utilizes a specially shaped bed to help the huge tires to seal and seat properly. Width is 85mm and weight is currently at 420 grams but that could change as YO MAMMA nears production. Availability is slated for November with an unofficial MSRP of $800 per rim.
