One of the most exciting products on display at Interbike was the new Race Face Next SL carbon crankset. At a mind boggling claimed weight of 425 grams for a 175mm length crank with Race Face’s new spiderless narrow wide chainring (weighed with a 28t ring), it is a serious contender for the title of “lightest readily available production crankset on the market.” The new spiderless rings are removable with a standard square taper bottom bracket tool and are available in even sizes from 26-36. A standard spider for triple and double setups is also available with Race Face’s stellar chainrings.
The new crank utilizes a 30mm alloy spindle with a shim-less adjustable bearing preload feature and is compatible with all mountain bike bottom bracket standards currently on the market. It’s three piece design makes it future proof by allowing easy spindle swaps. To top it all off, colored crank protectors and hardware are available to customize the look of the crank to match your ride.
