The hubs on the new 'cross wheels use the centerlock disc mounting standard. That fork is from Enve in case you were wondering.
Day one of Interbike isn’t even done yet and we have some fresh product for your enjoyment. Click through for the full gallery. There will be many more photos and videos to come!
- From this angle you can see how smooth the transition is between the braking surface and the sidewall of the rim. There is no edges to disturb the airflow. Weight is just 1545g. The wheels should be available in the spring.
- The new 26.5mm wide (18.2mm inside width) HED Vanquish wheels are competing with Enve’s 6.7 SES clinchers. If the Vanquish wheels ride as good as they look, they just might be the fastest wheels on the planet. You might notice that the brake track on the rear wheel is a 3K weave rather than the unidirectional front brake track. The discrepancy can be chalked up to prototyping experimentation. They will make a decision on which carbon to use around the New Year.
- The hugely popular Ardennes FR wheels are now available in a disc format as well. HED let it slip that they are also going to make a C2+ rim profile that is another 2mm wider for a 25mm wide rim that should be available in the Spring! The C2+ will be available on non-disc wheels as well.
- The Jet 6 is a serious contender for a top aero clincher wheelset. The alloy brake track is reliable and consistent and the rim has the same aerodynamic mojo that HED uses on their grand tour winning tubular wheels. They are designed to have unrivaled handling and aerodynamic performance in a cross wind.
- HED hubs are available with your choice of colors for the grease port cover so you can dial in the look of your bike.
- The hubs on the new ‘cross wheels use the centerlock disc mounting standard. That fork is from Enve in case you were wondering.
- This beauty of a ‘cross bike, from custom carbon builder Alchemy, was on display at the HED booth with their new 50mm deep carbon disc tubular wheels.
- HED’s wheel lineup is impressive. Who else designs their disc wheels with this much attention to aerodynamic detail? A lot of passion and effort go into these wheels.
- American Classic uses these proprietary spoke nipples to ensure that their alloy nipples get more thread engagement to prevent the head of the nipple shearing off and allowing for much higher spoke tensions.
- Here is a cross section of an Argent rim. It has a nice thick base to prevent cracking, plus the inner ridges to safely hold a tubeless road tire in place in all conditions.
- American Classic also had this 23.5mm wide box section tubular disc wheelset for ‘cross racers that want that smooth old school ride with new school all-weather stopping power.
- A close up of the micro hub on the Argent wheels. This is one of many tricks used to keep these alloy wheels very light.
- The Argent uses a plastic rim strip for sealing yet still has the inner ridges of a standard road tubeless wheel to ensure that the tire’s bead is held in securely. The best part is that if it gets all grungy with sealant, replacing it is a snap, literally!
- The American Classic Argent wheels are one of the most exciting new products at the show. Road tubeless compatible, 22mm wide, 30mm deep, and less than 1400g! It is one of the first wide tubeless wheelsets available.
- Profile’s Elite hub has an astounding 204 points of engagement! That is over three times faster than a King hub. It is available in all the popular axle formats.
- Profile Racing had their wares on display in a rainbow of colors that would make Chris King blush.
- The Shimano Alfine 11 Di2 hub. The chain tensioner is not required unless you are using a bike with fixed vertical dropouts and no eccentric bottom bracket.
- Alfine Di2 uses the same shifters as Ultegra Di2 but comes with no guts in the left shifter. 1×10 ‘cross racers rejoice! Di2 just got cheaper.
- Shimano had their new Alfine Di2 hub and shifter on display. The setup is so clean that NASA would be jealous. The digital gear display is necessary because there is no way to verify which gear is being used without it!
- Here is a close-up of the chain drive mechanism that the clamp head uses to ride up the rack’s vertical support.
- Park’s new electric powered hoisting bike stand was a wonder to behold. While certainly a shop only item, it is every mechanic’s dream.
- The alloy body is polished, laser etched, and anodized blue. It is the coolest allen wrench I have ever seen.
- Park Tool had this special 50th anniversary three way allen wrench.
- When you are as fast as Wiggins is you get your name UNDER the clear coat!
- TdF Winner Bradley Wiggins’ bike was on display at the entrance. Of course the wheels, cranks, and rings are not the ones used by Wiggins, but the frame was and the bike is clearly fit to his lanky, yet flexibly body.
