The rebirth of the American pony car over the last decade has shown that people want new products resembling the classics, but without the drawbacks of those uncomfortable, unsafe, and unreliable machines. I think we can all agree that the original versions of the Chevy Camaro, Dodge Challenger, and Ford Mustang are far prettier than their modern counterparts. The ideal Camaro then, would have a ’69 body with the engine, suspension, and safety equipment of the 2015 model.
Vittoria had the same idea with their 1976 EVO Road Shoes, and they deliver, showing off a gorgeous, simple vintage Italian design with a well vented carbon sole as stiff as one of Winston Churchill’s martinis. As black as outer space, there is no doubt that if Johnny Cash ever took up road cycling, he’d wear a pair of 1976 EVO’s. Going into the test I was so enchanted by the 1976’s beauty that I feared I would be blind to any faults I might find with the fit or design.
