H Plus Son is a relative newcomer to the rim market that hopes to compete with the likes of industry leaders Mavic and HED. With the high standards set by these companies, H Plus Son really had their work cut out for them. The TB-14 clincher rim proves that H Plus Son is more than up to the task and has likely made product designers and engineers at competing firms very nervous.
While it is a thoroughly modern rim, the TB-14 is endowed with a classic look that belies the modern world-class features within. At 23mm wide, this retro looking box-section rim aims to offer the wider footprint of rims such as HED’s C2 with the ride quality and look of a vintage Mavic Reflex or Ambrosio tubular rim.
When I came upon a pair of 32-hole NOS Shimano 600 hubs I knew the TB-14 would be a perfect match for a retro looking old school/new school combo that would look and work great as a cyclocross training wheelset. Performance has been extremely impressive with these rims. They are a great choice for any rider looking for a smooth riding clincher wheelset for hammering on gravel roads, tearing it up at a local ‘cross race, or even touring.
