Eight-time Downieville Downhill champ and WTB pro Mark Weir needs no introduction. As the original All-Mountain Monster, Mark’s ability to climb forever and then rail descents like he rode a chairlift to the top paved the way for trail riding to become enduro racing.

Despite his reputation as a charge-first-think-later guy both on and off the bike, Mark has put in the hard work to craft a life most of us dream of. Thoughtful and honest, Mark makes things happen for himself and others.

Enduring setbacks that would make lesser men curl up under a rock, Mark continues to thrive thanks to an iron will and dedication to make a life out of doing what he loves.

Dawn patrol or evening ride? In a perfect world it’s a dawn-sunset-dawn. It’s next on the list. Hard to pick one. Dawn gives a day of power, sunset a night to remember. There lies the problem.

Have you ever used your bike as a getaway vehicle, and why?  Every day, this is Marin County. That’s why we make such good trail riders…Head up son!

If you had to ride with cantilever brakes instead of hydraulic discs or elastomer suspension instead of current technology, which would it be? Great brakes, but 10 years ago I would swing my nuts and say who needs brakes…

Best cycling innovation? Being able to jump into braking bumps, hit the brakes heavy, and feel good about it. Whatever made that happen would be the best.

Flats or clipless? Clipless.

Would you rather be a circus clown or a rodeo clown? Circus.

Favorite place to ride? Novato.

Who are your heroes or role models? Dad and mom, wife, and son and Jimmie Johnson.

Favorite WTB product? Make me pick one? OK, the Warden. It’s way harder going up with it, but down is just something to experience,  wet or dry.

Pizza or burrito, and what would be on/in the perfect one? Taco Jane’s in San Anselmo. The Snapper.

Cross-train or ride more? Ride, dig, crawl.

Anne Caroline or Minaar? On the fence on this one.

Tomac or Palmer? Tomac, but I would bum a dip off Palm.

Meditation or Metallica? Metal in the woods is both.

What was your first bike? Corsaro.

Websites you check everyday? Not many bikes: RC and how to cook organs.

Is it a roost or a carve? Cutties.

What is one super power you wish you had? Know the future.

What are you most grateful for? This life.

Luke

appreciates the climb and its challenges, but is convinced the only reason to pedal faster up the hill is to start your descent sooner. While he has sampled the joys of long rides on the tarmac, the dirt is where you’ll find him. When not on the trail or in the water, Luke likes to drive off into the wild to take his daughter camping in his cherished 1987 Volkswagen Westfalia.
