Andrew “Needles” Neethling is one of South Africa’s finest downhillers. Riding for the e*thirteen/Ploygon/UR DH team in 2015, Needles will be seeking podiums on the World Cup circuit. Known for his friendly demeanor and for throwing style whenever he can thanks to his dirt jumping background, Andrew is a welcome sight both on the track and at the after party. Ripping year in and year out, we are looking forward to watching Needles’ 2015 campaign!

Have you ever seen examples of supernatural phenomena, ie Bigfoot, ghosts, miniature creatures, chupacabra, etc? NO!

Dawn patrol or evening ride? Evening Ride.

Have you ever used your bike as a getaway vehicle, and why? Nope.

If you had to ride with cantilever brakes instead of hydraulic discs or elastomer suspension instead of current technology, which would it be? Probably Elastomer suspension, as I am very sensitive to brakes so I want them to feel good.

Best cycling innovation? Dropper seat posts.

Flats or clipless? Flats for fun, Clips for racing.

Favorite piece of cycling kit? A good pair of gloves!

Favorite place to ride? Helderberg Trail Centre right here in my hometown (Somerset West, South Africa).  I helped build and open this trail centre this year. It’s great to have a place for everyone to ride.

Who are your heroes or role models? Most people at the top of their game are people I respect. Nelson Mandela is the ultimate human being to look up to, though.

Pizza or burrito, and what would be on/in the perfect one? BURRITO! Everytime!

Favorite e13 product? E*thirteen Chain Guide, because losing a chain is just the worst thing.

Cross-train or ride more? Ride more.

Tomac or Palmer? Palmer!!

What was your first bike?  Cunningham I think it was called. Fully rigid. It was an off-pink colour as well…

Websites you check everyday?

Is it a roost or a carve? Roost.

Would you rather be an amateur comedian or a magician? Comedian!!! Silly question…

What are you most grateful for? My health, and for being able to do something I love for a living.
