We had the opportunity to take a tour through Specialized’s massive Salt Lake City western distribution center while we were at dealer camp. It is a truly impressive facility that was built with an eye on keeping employees happy and the work getting done as efficiently as possible. The motivational banners and placards that are omnipresent at the facility speak to the unique perspective on human resource management principles common to Utah. The other aspect that really stood out on the tour was how organized and clean everything was. This is clearly not a warehouse full of lackeys and slackers. These guys and gals get the job done with impressive precision. Take a look around the place via the gallery below and get a taste of what it’s like to work for Specialized in Salt Lake City.
- The employee bike wash. No excuse for a dirty bike here.
- Employee gym for the snowy days when riding isn’t an option.
- Everyone knows what is expected of them at Specialized SLC.
- This place is massive!
- This place is so big it could fit the contents of an aircraft carrier!
- The ark of the covenant is near the end of the isle on the left.
- Tires galore!
- An order all picked and ready to go. Mmmm… fresh tires.
- “But I didn’t know I was supposed to be professional.” Yeah, that excuse doesn’t cut it with a banner like this. At Specialized SLC you have to tow the line.
- Motivation, job description, and values all in one easy to read location.
- More platitudes and admonitions than you can shake a stick at.
- If you work here you better be ready to duke it out on your lunch break!
- Management offices where the mental heavy lifting is performed.
