Bike: Santa Cruz Nomad Carbon
About The Build: Joel wanted a bike that he could ride downhill. Joel wanted to huck his bike off big drops. Joel wanted a Santa Cruz Nomad. The Nomad is not a bike for the faint of heart. It is meant to be ridden hard, ridden fast and be run through all 6 inches of its travel during every ride. The Nomad’s rock solid construction, aggressive geometry and virtual pivot point suspension combine to create an all mountain / freeride shred sled that is designed to destroy the downhill and get you back up the mountain for another run.
Joel’s Carbon Santa Cruz Nomad is outfitted with a dependable and budget friendly Shimano XT group but he dropped the front derailleur in favor of the simplicity and weight savings of a 1×10 set up. A Raceface 36T Narrow Wide single chain ring in the front and a Shimano XT M786 Shadow Plus rear derailleur allows him to ride without a chain guide and without ever having to worry about dropping his chain when hitting those big drops.
Every mountain rig deserves a little bling so Joel swapped out his headset for a purple Chris King Inset 3 that turns more heads than the bike itself. He runs a Renthal Fatbar for maximum control up front and Azonic 420 flat pedals provide a solid landing platform while he’s “dominating the toughest downhill trails in San Luis Obispo.” Joel is a man who knew exactly what he wanted and his Santa Cruz Nomad turned out pretty trick.
