Art’s Employee: Miles LaMon
Position: Professional Cyclist/Receiving Manager
Bike: Argon 18 Gallium Pro
About the Build:
At Art’s Cyclery, we are, of course, all about bikes. We also love competition, so between our staff ping pong tournaments you’ll probably see us at local races competing or spectating, with a racing crew covering the spectrum from Cat 4 all the way up to pro. This special Argon 18 Gallium Pro belongs to our very own pro, Miles LaMon, who is not only a long-time member of the Art’s Cyclery Crew, but also the Clif Bar Cycling Team. Miles loves this bike because it doesn’t hold him back, allowing him to keep the throttle wide open while maintaining control like Tron on a lightcycle.
The Argon 18 Gallium Pro is standard issue for the Clif Bar team, and Miles was hooked up with a proper kit, featuring a full Sram Red group for quick, tidy shifting, including a trick Rotor Q ring combo for putting the power down. Specialized’s S-Works Turbo tires keep the bike glued to the pavement and hook up nicely for those ’round the corner sprints. Road chatter is smoothed with an Easton EC90 Carbon Stem and Seatpost. The HED Ardennes SL Wheels are for training. In race dress, Miles rolls with HED Jet 6’s.
Part of the reason Clif Bar signed Miles to the team is his insane power output; he always seems to be breaking bottom brackets and shearing crankarms off their spindles. Miles also has a quick sense of humor and gets along with anyone, so fitting into the team dynamic of Clif Bar was a given. In the search to find a bike to withstand the stresses a powerful sprinter like Miles doles out, Clif Bar team managers chose the Gallium Pro frame with it’s enormous downtube and bottom bracket to resist torsional flex, which makes Miles and the rest of the team happy.
Off our clock, Miles can be seen leading the paceline while training or racing and scarfing down a Clif Bar or two. When not in his team kit, he’ll probably be riding around the beach with a camera crew modeling for Voler. As a seasoned rider with over 12 years of racing experience, Miles relies on skills learned from other cycling disciplines to help keep up his form. His days as a pro downhiller ingrained critical bike control techniques, while BMX racing has helped improve his sprinting fitness and technique. While cycling has enabled Miles to enjoy a myriad of different experiences and the opportunity to travel world wide, when it comes down to it, Miles can’t think of another place he’d rather be than at home on his bike in San Luis Obispo, California.
