New Art’s Web Video Series: Cross Training for Cyclists

Eric Benson is the kind of bike shop owner that every shop rat wished they worked for. Bucking the trend of glory day relishing, paunchy, bearded and bespectacled bike shop owners, Eric is the picture of health and loves to ride. Art’s co-owner Scott Smith happens to be as well! In his mid 40’s, Eric routinely demoralizes serious riders in their 20’s and 30’s. How does he do it? In addition to riding virtually everyday, Eric has some special training that gives him an advantage.

Eric’s little secret happens to be a Master’s Degree in Kinesiology from Cal Poly. He’s leveraged this knowledge to develop better cross training techniques that give him an edge on both the road and the trail. Eric is now sharing that knowledge so that you can get more out of your next ride or race.

In the first installment of our new web series, Eric reviews a perennial core training favorite, The Plank. This humble exercise creates a foundation that cyclists need to harness the power of their legs to produce more wattage. In addition to the basic plank exercise, Eric shows how to perform advanced plank variations that will challenge even the strongest of cyclists while taking your fitness and power to the next level.
